Executive Officer: Sandra Dowe Panel of Advisers – Deaf: Linda Squelch, Victoria Page, Sehrish Rashid, Oliver Monksfield Hearing: Debbie Jakeman, Susan Baines Deaf Advisers Linda Squelch is a member of the Deaf Community since birth, a native user of BSL and a teacher of sign language levels 1-6. She is co-author of London and South East Regional Signs and appears on the accompanying DVD. Vicky Page is a respected member of the Deaf Community in Luton. She was educated in units attached to mainstream schools in Bedfordshire and at the Royal School for the Deaf Derby as a resident in the Further Education department. She trained to work with very young deaf learners. Vicky gives support to students with additional special needs. Sehrish Rashid works voluntarily as a teaching assistant of BSL. She attended in units attached to mainstream schools in Luton, home taught in Pakistan, returned for secondary schooling in Luton, and went to Doncaster College for Deaf for Further Education. She is a member of the local Deaf Community. Oliver Monksfield is a member of the Deaf Community, has a degree in coaching studies from University of Luton, (now University of Bedfordshire), qualified as a teacher of the deaf at Oxford Brookes and teaches at Heathcote School Chingford. He teaches deaf children in the school unit and spends holidays coaching youngsters with special needs. Hearing Advisers Debbie Jakeman advises on codes of practice for interpreters and communicators in educational establishments. She has a law degree and is aware of the rights of deaf people. Debbie works at the Citizens’ Advice Bureau in Milton Keynes and advises deaf clients. She also assists voluntarily at the Milton Keynes Deaf Community drop in centre. Susan Baines has supported Deaf Students in Further and Higher Education. She was the first Communicator in our organisation to use electronic typing for notetaking and offers useful information on supporting students in local universities.
